(3) Set your mind on the Spirit. Look to better things. “then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God” (Col 3:1). How is this important to overcoming sin? Consider verse 5, “Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”
Think about how evil thoughts and imaginations feed the
lusts of the flesh. One must start disciplining the mind and become aware that God sees everyone and knows every thought. The Christian must set the mind on the Spirit and become spiritually aware of what is behind the lusts of the flesh. “[T]o put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,” (Eph 4:22–23; ESV). Romans 8:5–6informs, “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.”
